The difference between interest and approval

An expression of interest allows a person or business to explain a need or request information. It is the beginning of a conversation, not a decision to provide a service.

An application usually involves a defined product, specific requirements and an assessment process. Approval, where granted, should identify the provider, conditions and next steps. A contractual relationship arises through the applicable agreements, rather than simply through an online registration.

These distinctions matter when an institution is being developed. A proposed product may change as its legal structure, operating model and permissions are determined. Early interest should not be presented as a reserved account, guaranteed facility or privileged entitlement.

Vardent’s website currently receives enquiries and expressions of interest. It does not open accounts, accept deposits or approve financing. No one gains authority to act as a banking agent by completing a candidate form.

Read the purpose statement on each form and retain any acknowledgement provided. If a message appears to promise something inconsistent with the website’s stated status, use the official contact page to raise the issue.
